Italian 4th of July
So today is there independence day. Everything is closed except for a few internet cafes and even fewer restaurants. K and I are taking this oppertunity to read e-mail and make a few posts. Italy has been an amazing trip for us. The food, the sights, the places, the roads. We drove 963 miles in our rented VW Polo, it's a smaller car than the Golf hatchback, kind of like a 4 door MINI. Driving over here is something to be experienced. We have video. High Speed mixed with lots of lane changing, and hundreds of scooters. Think frogger.
We have also had some experiences find us. Last Friday we visited the Large synagogue in Rome and planed to pray there that night. I still had my yamuaka on when we went back to the hotel. We where looking for lunch nearby when a man asked me if I kept kosher, we got into a long discussion about Reform Judaism in the United States vs. Italian Orthodox vs. Sephardic Judaism. He invited us to his shul and to Sabbath dinner at his house. We accepted. What we learned later was that he was the brother of the Shul's Rabbi and a Rabbi himself. We had an amazing dinner that will have to be saved for another post. But I guess the song is right, "Where ever you go there's always someone Jewish, your never alone when you say your are a Jew"
